The Goodness of Fresh Air

This morning we spent over two hours running around outside, playing with dogs, and learning about horses. My girls absolutely love the fresh air and I’m right there with them. By the time we loaded up into the car, Cheyenne was coated in dirt from head to toe and was as happy as could be. Even in mid August it is still humid and HOT outside, but that didn’t slow us down. I grew up riding horses and am hoping for both of our girls to be able to do the same. There’s just something about learning, playing, and working outside that is nourishing to the soul.

Our daily routine includes a walk in the morning during the summer, or playing in the yard when it’s cool. Dirty fingers, sandy hair, and stinky toes aren’t my favorite to deal with but I try not to intervene too much when we are playing outside. Fresh air calms my baby, brings clarity to my head, and engages my toddler fully. It’s so sweet watching a toddler explore the most simple things. Rocks, leaves, and birds are something we see every single day. Yet, for a child, it’s like a new discovery every time they walk outside.

During the fall and winter, we love having bonfires in the back yard while roasting smores. Who doesn’t love a gooey, chocolatey, crunchy mess? The cool weather is my favorite! In the summertime, we persevere through the heat, bugs, and humidity. If you have ever lived in the south, you know I’m only being semi dramatic.

A few of our other favorite activities to do outside are blowing bubbles, finding snails, drawing with chalk, or reading books on our porch. There are so many other fun, outdoor activities though! I would love to hear what your favorites are. Please leave a comment below and let me know!
